The Aiki Dojo 2 Minute Technique – Sankyo Transitions
Andrew Loviska, Aikido 1st Dan demonstrates some of the techniques that one can transition to from Sankyo (三教) or “The 3rd joint lock” in Aikido. Sankyo is listed as a joint lock but it technically isn’t. Once the lock is administered it needs movement to keep it locked. Sankyo is more of a come-along than a true joint lock. Thus, one would need to transition into another technique if they need to engage other opponents or run away.
